Car boot sales/Ebay/Gumtree

We are beginning to accumulate ‘stuff’ donated by supporters and ourselves.    Our attic is much clearer after my visit there last weekend.  only problem now is, it’s all in the hall!  I have attempted Ebay but am not a natural at it and am very glad of the support of two parents who have kindly offered to sell items for us via Ebay and Gumtree.

If you fancy a clear out – and maybe have items for a car boot sale why not do one for us? Or give us a percentage of your takings!   If you are selling via Ebay there is the opportunity when putting your advert together, to donate a % of your final selling price to a charity and we are a recognised charity on Ebay.

One of our great supporters, Jeanette Reid, is taking all my car boot/jumbly items and selling them soon for us.  Hurray!

No doubt I will find a reason to fill the gap I have made in the attic with something else though.

Harley Davidson bikers at Hard Rock street party

Lesley at Hard Rock Cafe must have had a few sleepless nights planning the street party – not least because the weather so far this year has been terrible.  Wonderfully though on tuesday morning sun was shining no clouds to be seen and the Hard Rock Street party to celebrate Hard Rock’s 40th birthday got off to a roaring start.  Literally.   A number of Harley Davidson bikers came along to offer rides at £3 a time and we got all the proceeds.   First up was Alison from Edinburgh Spotlight.  Off they roared into the distance.  George took her round Holyrood Park.   The guys were amazing – thanks so much!  I got my photo taken sitting on the back of one of the bikes with George.  Maybe next time I might actually go for a spin on it!

They have offered to come along to another of our events to offer bike rides  – so now I am busy thinking of events to invite them to!

As if that wasn’t enough I also met two staff from Benefit – fantastic make up and they have offered to do a make up workshop in advance of our fashion show for our young models.   Absolutely fantastic – off to look at the diary for dates…..

Edinburgh Businesswomen’s Club

We are delighted to announce that we are Charity of the Year at the Edinburgh Businesswomen’s Club.   They had a re-launch event on Monday 6 June and it was a sell out.  130 guests and the full committee.  The noise level in Lulu nightclub (the venue) was tremendous!

Already offers of support are coming in – I am meeting a member next week to discuss design of event flyers.  Another member has taken a table at our March Ball.   I feel sure they will love our afternoon tea events too.

We will blog about our association with ESBC – but meantime may I say that I think its incredible value – well worth considering joining!  Have a look at their website.

Tuesday 14 June is Hard Rock Cafe’s 40th birthday and the Edinburgh Hard Rock Cafe is hosting a big birthday bash – its a street party so we are all hoping for good weather!   Loads happening and we will be there too with our postcards – who remembers our postcard challenge?  Ok, seems like I need to do a wee post about the Pound Postcard challenge.

Anyway….if you are near George Street on Tuesday 14th June come to the party and say hello to us too.

Let’s start with the auction items

Craig trains Mark Beaumont the round the world cyclist and his biggest challenge is to train lynne for her Kilimanjaro trek in sept 2013.

An absolutely awesome training package – I can recommend him highly – I have been working with him for a few weeks now and feel so much better already.

And the Edinburgh Festival and Kings Theatres offered us a season ticket with tickets for every performance coming up  – we put that together with a lovely voucher for a stay at the Hilton Caledonian Hotel on Edinburgh’s Princes Street (which included their amazing afternoon tea)

Radley donated to us a gorgeous leather bag – Blingo and handbags go so well together

More thanks – the support shown to us has been tremendous –

The goody bags themselves are important – they have to be strong and not too big and not too small – the ones we were given fitted the bill to a T.   The GHD t shirts we were also given fitted in them perfectly as did our discount cards.

2020 opticians donated the bags and a bottle of lens cleaner and cloth – a perfect size to fit into a handbag and so necessary to keep glasses or sunglasses clean.  I thought it a perfect gift for our lovely guests.  As if that wasn’t enough they also gave us a beautiful pair of Gucci sunglasses to go into a fabulous Bloomingdales beach bag which was one of our star raffle prizes.

It’s Good 2 Give….Zumba class

What?   Our first Zumba class

Where?   Clans Hall gym at the Mary Erskine School Sports Centre, Craigleith Rise, Edinburgh

When?   Sunday 19 June 2011 between 2 and 3pm (registration opens at 1.15pm)

Open to anyone aged 16 or over and entry fee is £5 per person – every penny goes to our projects.  If you want to join in then come along anytime from 1.15pm (you must have trainers or plimsolls on to take part)

We want to have a huge class of Zumba participants – spread the word for us

Our professional instructor for this event is Angie Dickson who has kindly waived her fee.

 

Our first Cupcake Decorating Workshop

Thanks to Hard Rock Cafe for hosting our first ever cupcake workshop – and here’s to many more.  What fun!  What an amount of glitter we went through.  Eve at eight our youngest cupcake decorator did a sterling job on her cakes with a wee bit help from dad.   Sammi is a natural at creative stuff – she made a superb fascinator at our fascinator workshop and some very tasty looking cakes at this one.

It was wonderful to see Shannon again – almost  a year to the day since her bone marrow transplant.   Mum and granny came to decorate too –

Our thanks also to Carole Mearns for giving us some great tips on decorating and we look forward to working with her again soon.  In honour of Hard Rock Cafe hosting the event one of our cupcake decorators made a burger cupcake!
