The It’s Good 2 Givers…….

Posted by | The Givers Club | No Comments

We have 20 regular individual donors and 1 company donor – our It’s Good 2 Givers.

We need more!  It’s our own fault we don’t have more because we need to advertise it more.

Maybe you can help.

We have three ways of giving – via a monthly standing order through our bank, Unity Trust bank – or via a regular monthly donation through Virgin Money Giving.

And thirdly through payroll giving.

We can send you a standing order form and a gift aid form so we can claim gift aid on your monthly donation. Email me for those forms.

The link to Virgin Money giving is here and there is the option to make a regular donation and gift aid is taken care of for you/us when you tick the box!

Payroll giving is something you need to ask about at your workplace. (and ask that It’s Good 2 Give is included in the benefiting charity list)

We welcome all donations as you know so if anyone is up for joining our It’s Good 2 Givers Club that would be wonderful.

Our regular Givers donate £5 – £10 per month each  and our Company Giver, Timberbush Tours, donates between  £100 and £150 per month.

It all adds up very nicely!

Thanks so much to our wonderful It’s Good 2 Givers – silent but much appreciated donors, every one.

Charity Partner Timberbush Tours make monthly donation

Posted by | Charity of the Year | No Comments

Thanks so much to our great supporters at Timberbush Tours – From September they are making a very nice monthly donation to It’s Good 2 Give!

From the minute I met June and Gary Voy who own Timberbush Tours they have been amazing – taking tables at events, offering auction items and making introductions to others.

Your monthly donation means a great deal to us and the families we support.

Lynne’s top twenty-ish christmas gift ideas

It’s really 22 top christmas gift ideas because I am sneaking in

It’s Good 2 Give gifts –

how about making a small donation of just £1 or £2  for a message on our wishing tree – if you pay a wee bit extra we will even put it on our facebook page so you can share it with whoever you wrote it for!

or…..we have 2012 wall calendars with gorgeous photos of Scottish landscape scenes by Donald Ford – just £8 each or an insulated mug for these chilly mornings – £4 each.  Got a runner in the family?  Buy them one of our running vests – a great buy at only £12.

and if you like our events – how about buying a gift voucher for one of our afternoon tea events – £25 each and the recipient can choose from any of our 2012 afternoon tea dates once they are announced in January.  Email me if you’d like to buy one

Gift vouchers make splendid gifts – they are always welcomed and are easy to purchase (often possible to do online)

As you know, I love to promote local businesses  so, in no particular order, here goes-

1.   Hamilton & Inches, incredible jeweller in George Street.  Yes, they have utterly divine and expensive pieces of jewellery but they also have utterly divine and affordable silver jewellery – fantastic bracelets, earrings, charms, cufflinks.  And friendly, charming, wonderful staff.

2.   Renideo – what a wonderful gift to give or get – a voucher for time with Karen Finlayson a style coach who is, quite simply, fantastic and very interested in the self belief and self confidence of the person.

3.  Orocco Pier – great food and awesome views of the Forth Bridges

4.  Fifi Wilson – stunning clothes and accessories from this gorgeous boutique in the heart of Bruntsfield

5.  More gorgeous clothes – this time from Kakao by K inThistle Street

6.  All things kilt-y – and contemporary 21st century Kilts – just across the road from Kakao by K

7.  Food again – consider a voucher for one of the Fishers restaurants – Fishers, Fishers in the City or The Shore (my personal favourite is The Shore)

8.  Books your thing?  Consider a visit to the Edinburgh Bookshop at Bruntsfield – personal service and once you’ve been once or twice they will start to recommend books to suit you.  And if you need any recommendations for books – I thoroughly recommend Sara Sheridan‘s Secret of the Sands or The Secret Mandarin, Maggie O’Farrell’s The Hand that First held Mine and for younger readers any of Cathy Cassidy’s books.

9.  Bruntsfield again (well it is a fantastic shopping area) – if you like Stollen then you must visit Falko’s bakery – and why not have a coffee while you are there.

10Craigie’s Farm has a huge range of products for christmas dinner and more.   Who wouldn’t like to receive a hamper as a gift?   Plus there’s the cafe too!

11. Keen photographer?   I can highly recommend the Kolo range of albums available at 50% discount from me.  They are truly stunning albums – lots of different sizes and colours

12.  Personalised stationery – how decadent.  and luxurious.  And gorgeous.  And available from luxury online stationer Magenta Ink

13.  If  you have relatives visiting Scotland in 2012, Timberbush Tours has a huge range of tours they could go on and in luxurious style too.

14.  Maybe you need to get fit in 2012 (yes, I know that’s got to be top of my list with the Kilimanjaro trek coming up in 2013) – if you live north west edinburgh consider joining Curves Barnton gym.  if you live south east then consider contacting Pamela Stafford of Fitness Bodies and enlisting her help.

15.  We all love a bit of pampering so consider a voucher for a treatment at one of the Zest health and beauty salons – the treatment list is long and there is something for everyone, even teens.

16.  Talking of teens, how about a voucher for a meal at the Hard Rock Cafe in George Street, Edinburgh?

17.  More clothes talk – at the West End of Edinburgh we have two stores to highly recommend – Sam Brown in William Street and The Cupboard in Stafford Street.  AS well as amazing clothes the personal attention and service is second to none.

18.  Still at the West End, how about a voucher for a hair treatment -the fantastic Charlie Miller salon in Stafford Street though there are also salons at Ocean Terminal, Bruntsfield and South St David Street.

19.  What about stocking fillers?  Lily -Mo has a lovely range of bracelets and if you mention It’s Good 2 Give she will give a donation to us for each sale- she can be found on facebook or email her lilymosparkle@yahoo.co.uk

20.  My ‘office in town’ and for me, the best coffee in town too.  (I’ve seen the hot chocolate and it looks sublime too) – Victor, Carina and their staff will make you feel like family.  Try Centotre in George Street and the Scottish Cafe at the Gallery on Princes Street.  Both well worth a visit.  You can buy a gift voucher for here too.  A pressie I would love.

21.  Last and certainly not least if you are in town around Frederick Street visit Dickson Reid hair and buy the lady in your life a voucher for a hair or beauty treatment or a set of GHD’s.  Super friendly and they are also promoting our Christmas Wishing Tree tags!

May the Tours Be With You

I know, I know a truly awful play on words but it’s 630am and as good as it gets at that time of the day!

It’s my way of telling you that Timberbush Tours have taken us on as Charity of the Year –  They have been supportive from the very minute I met them.  June and Gary Voy are top supporters.  We’re delighted to have an official partnership with them now.

Thanks, TT – we are glad the Tours are with us!!

Where does your money go?

Perhaps you have attended one (or more) of our fantastic events – or put loose change into one of our collecting cans. Talking of which, if you have  or know of an office or shop that could take one of our cans do get in touch.

Maybe you organised an event to raise funds for us or had a significant birthday and asked for donations in lieu of gifts.

Then thought ‘I wonder what do It’s Good 2 Give  do with that donation?’.

Let me tell you;

There is £100,000′ in the bank ‘- a pretty good start to our £1m target.

In addition, we have agreed to several requests from professional staff at the hospital.

For example, a 17 year old asked for a specific make and model of mobile phone which we found later allowed him to increase the font size thus allowing him to keep in touch with his friends by text and email.  (Sadly, he later lost his fight with cancer )

In order to allow a family to keep mobile we paid for essential repairs on the family car making it roadworthy again.

We contributed 50% of the deposit on a mobility car for a young man who has cancer

Nowadays laptops are an integral part of a young person’s life allowing them to continue with homework and to communicate with friends – we have provided 2 laptops  to patients in ward 2 at the Sick Kids.

Our weekly delivery of healthy snacks for patients and parents is eagerly received!  Each week we take in smoothies, individual pots of fruit, individual puddings, healthier crisps, individual portions of cheese and biscuits, small ice creams, ice lollies, cereal bars, juices.  For the past five months we have  had generous support from sponsors for this – City Cabs Ltd, Flavour catering, Timberbush Tours and Queensferry Rotary Club – we thank them for their help.  If you know of anyone who might sponsor a month (£250) please pass on my details to them!

Our range of workshops is increasing week by week

From jewellery making to wood turning, from glass painting to craft skills we are happy to try anything that keeps the children and young people engaged.

As part of our annual fashion show we are holding  confidence building workshops.  These are very popular and help our models relax on the day!

Parents are showing much appreciation for our Parents Packs – a pack of essentials but with a luxurious and thoughtful touch – in addition to a toothbrush and toothpaste (and thanks must go to the Edinburgh Sheraton for those), we provide Molton Brown shower gel, notelets and pen, stamps, a booklight and fan (it can be very warm in the hospital).  Many of the items we provide are donated by our kind supporters especially around Christmas time.

June’s sponsors for the Healthy Snacks

Introducing you to our June sponsors for the healthy snacks.   Timberbush Tours have very kindly donated £250 to cover the cost of this month’s snacks – Director, June Voy, is celebrating a milestone birthday this month and decided it would be “good 2 give!” .   We agree and so do parents and patients in ward 2 at the Sick Kids.[important title=”Quotes from three of the mums on Ward 2″] ‘I can vouch for this. The nutella goes down a treat also – thanx its good 2 give and all who make this happen. From a very grateful mum’

‘We are yet again in ward 2 tonight. Thank you so much for providing snacks for the kids and parents! I didn’t have time to get anything to bring with me and it was so lovely to be able to offer my daughter something nice for supper when she is feeling poorly. Thank you again!! ‘

May

Posted by | Charity of the Year, Events | No Comments

1st May – how did that happen?   Time sure can rush by – I still try very hard to enjoy every moment.  I have some crazy ideas I am working on (nothing new there then) and lots of events.  May is going to be incredible – it’s so full of events organised by us  (the amazing Blingo event is on 19 May ) and by others and 2 more of our successful workshops.

More on all of these coming soon but today let me welcome May by saying Thank You.

Thank you to Flavour catering (great food and coffee at Drumsheugh Place)  for sponsoring April’s nutritional snacks and Thank You to City Cabs for sponsoring May’s.

We have set the bar high on our standard of nutritional snacks and are delighted with the response we are getting.  Many parents and young people have texted and emailed to say they look forward to snack time each day and we are so glad to be able to make a difference in this small but significant way.

I have been shopping today for the first of City Cabs snacks deliveries and will buy the fresh produce on Tuesday – we have put together some wonderful treats.

By talking (one of my favourite pastimes) about the snacks and their success – we now have a sponsor for June too – the lovely June Voy of Timberbush Tours is celebrating a milestone birthday in June (I would have said it was her 30th if I didn’t know she had a nearly teenage son so it must be her 40th…….. )anyway  June has decided that one of the ways she is going to celebrate is by sponsoring the snacks for the  month of June.

This is wonderful news and we thank Flavour, City Cabs and Timberbush Tours very much  – if you know of anyone or any business who might sponsor a month please do ask them to get in touch with me!
