Learning About Setting Up a Charity

In this latest blog, our intern, Nicola Lamb tells us what she has been learning over the last couple of months at It’s good 2 give.

“As my internship continues, I've been fortunate to gain valuable insights into various aspects of running a successful charity and Ripple Retreat.

From shadowing Lynne as she navigates the legal and administrative procedures involved in setting up a charity from scratch to gaining hands-on experience with our Ripple Retreat Maintenance Manager Gillian, I've been exposed to the charitable and operational sides of the charity which has been very interesting.

Shadowing Lynne has provided me with an invaluable perspective into the complexities of setting up and managing a charity. The amount of paperwork, legal documentation, amongst many other processes involved in establishing a charity is truly remarkable. Witnessing Lynne's dedication and expertise in navigating these challenges has showed me how much hard work went in by her and Ian bringing It’s good 2 give to life.

Working alongside Gillian has given me a deeper understanding of the day-to-day maintenance required to keep the Ripple Retreat running smoothly. From ensuring the facilities are in top condition like something as simple are checking the lights are all working to addressing any maintenance issues that arise, witnessing Gillian's commitment to ensuring that our high standards are reinforced and the importance of upholding those standards to provide a safe, comfortable, and welcoming space for young cancer patients and their families.

In addition to this, my other duties, have included, making a Christmas e-Card to be sent out. I have also been researching and developing ideas for a bereavement day activity to be held at the retreat. This will be a valuable service for those who have lost loved ones and need support during this difficult time.”

It’s certainly been a busy few months for Nicola. We would like to thank her for all her help.
