A Well-Deserved Honour: Sylvia and Chris Wilson Receive the Joanna Lamb Award for Volunteering 2025
It is with a heart overflowing with gratitude that we reflect on fifteen incredible years of support from Sylvia and Chris Wilson and their dedicated team in Cupar, Fife. Since our charity, It’s good 2 give, began its journey in 2010, the Wilsons have been unwavering champions, transforming grief into tangible good for young cancer patients and their families across Scotland.
Sylvia and Chris first came to us in 2010, following the passing of their teenage daughter, Jennifer, to cancer. Their commitment to honouring Jennifer’s memory by helping others has been a profound source of inspiration. For fifteen years, their primary fundraiser was the now-legendary annual plant sale held in their hometown of Cupar.
Growing Goodness
This wasn't just a simple table of potted plants. The Wilsons poured their souls into this event—growing many of the plants themselves, collecting donations of garden paraphernalia, and creating a vibrant community event year after year. They also graciously hosted open days at Sylvia’s parents’ beautiful home, expanding their reach and impact.
Over a decade and a half, the Wilsons and their amazing team have not only raised vital awareness but have also generated a staggering over £30,000 for It’s good 2 give in Jennifer’s name. This monumental achievement is a testament to their passion, tireless work, and the incredible support network they've cultivated. We also extend our deepest thanks to their son, Christy, younger daughter, Joanne, Sylvia’s parents, and the huge contingent of family and friends who have been the backbone of the Cupar plant sales.
A New Chapter of Dedication
While 2025 marked the final chapter of the annual plant sale, Sylvia and Chris haven't slowed down! They have enthusiastically embraced a new role as volunteers at the Ripple Retreat garden. Already this summer and autumn, they have been up several times with friends, digging out borders and nurturing plants. Our beautiful, expansive garden demands constant care, and their skilled, invaluable help is a true gift to the young people who find sanctuary there.
Honoured with the Joanna Lamb Award
To recognise their loyal, longstanding, and selfless efforts over the past 15 years, it was my great privilege to award Sylvia and Chris Wilson the Joanna Lamb Award for Volunteering 2025.
As Co-Founder of It’s good 2 give, presenting this award was an emotional moment. I was reminded of the remarkable young woman it is named after: Joanna Lamb, a wonderful volunteer who was fiercely passionate about our charity.1 It was my very great privilege to have known her. Her dedication and many insightful ideas continue to shape how we work to improve the lives of young cancer patients.
We congratulate Sylvia, Chris, and their amazing Cupar team for their extraordinary legacy of volunteering and fundraising. We hope they will continue their wonderful new role at the Ripple Retreat garden for many years to come.
To Sylvia and Chris, and indeed to all our incredible volunteers, please know that your generosity, your time, and your spirit make our mission possible. We are supremely grateful for every single hour you give.
