Fashionably Fundraising: A Journey from Hobbs to Ripple Retreat

My fashion fundraising journey began 18 years ago in the elegant setting of the Hobbs store on Edinburgh's George Street. As a fledgling and volunteer event organiser, I was met with a warm and supportive team who helped me navigate my first fashion show. It was a small but successful event, sparking a passion for larger shows featuring young cancer patients and their loved ones.

These weren't just fashion shows; they were emotional celebrations of resilience. Real people, touched by cancer, became models for a cause close to their hearts. I was committed to showcasing unique outfits and accessories, collaborating with local businesses like Anta, whose stunning bodices and 21st century kilts created unforgettable looks.

Finding a free venue was crucial, and we were fortunate to have one that allowed us to keep ticket prices accessible while raising vital funds for our charity. The incredible team at Charlie Miller hair salons, led by the ever-supportive and now dear friend of mine, Darlene, became our partners in style. They accommodated our growing number of models with grace, even when we surprised them with over 100 participants in the final show! Their stylists not only transformed our models but also provided last-minute touch-ups on the big day.

Music played a powerful role in these events. Songs like "Rule the World" and "Marry Me" instantly transport me back to the vibrant energy of the catwalk, filled with the courage and joy of our models.

Fashion fundraising has been a cornerstone of It's good 2 give's mission, and I'm thrilled to see it continue with our intern Nicola's upcoming event at Hobbs this spring. For just £15, you can enjoy an evening of fizz, fashion tips from the stylish Fiona, exclusive discounts, and a raffle – all while supporting our cause.

The best part? The event takes place on Tuesday 23rd April 2024, 6-8pm, perfect for an after-work gathering with friends, followed by dinner. Join Nicola and me by emailing carla@itsgood2give.co.uk and reserve your space at this special event. Your support helps us maintain our beautiful Ripple Retreat, offering families of young cancer patients much-needed respite breaks, free of charge.

Let's raise a glass (and maybe grab some chocolate!) to fashion, friendship, and making a difference together.
